Ethics and Compliance

Balmes is strongly committed to the global Diamond ethic, respecting, above all, human rights, and civil and fundamental freedom. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards conflict or “blood” Diamonds.

Balmes obtains Diamonds only from those countries which fully participate in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. The KPCS monitors Ciamonds from the mines all the way until they enter the market. In cooperation with the United Nations, governments, and NGOs, it controls Diamond exports to prevent the illegal Diamond trade.

At Balmes, we work only with reputable suppliers, who can guarantee their adherence to, as well as standard compliance with, the Kimberley Process. This way, we guarantee that Balmes’ Diamonds are 100% conflict free. If any of our suppliers were at any time to fail to comply with the Process, we would immediately terminate our business relationship.

At Balmes, we provide as much support to the matter as we can, as well as promoting the Process to sustain its legitimacy in Diamond fair trade.

Our Diamonds are mined in major Diamond mines around the world: Africa, Australia, Canada, and Russia.

Diamonds are also an important source in the economy of many African countries. Part of this revenue provides access to healthcare for thousands of people. You can learn more about this at www.diamondfacts.org

The Kimberley Process

Balmes supports every aspect of the Kimberley Process.

In 2003, the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) came into force, signed by the UN. It is a qualification system designed to fight the illegal Diamond trade, and its aim is to prevent conflict Diamonds from entering the legitimate Diamond market.

Balmes certifies that all of its Diamonds are purchased based on a set of requirements and certificates ensuring that each supplier meets the Kimberley Process.
